New Amy’s Organic Food Giveaway!!

2 May

I did a review for Amy’s Kitchen’s Frozen Meals a while back and got hooked on their products. I am not a big fan of processed food, especially frozen meals. I find them to be either to salty or flavorless. They also tend to not be very filling and when your done, you still want a snack. I literally have tried tons of the Amy’s meals and have never been disappointed. They have AMAZING flavor and they are very filling. I also love to use them when I am doing my Isagenix cleanse, because they are filling and are filled with lots of veggies. They offer a TON of products, but today I am focusing on some of the new light and lean meals. Amy’s meals are all vegetarian, and they offere many gluten and dairy free options as well. They also only use Organic ingredients. You can find Amy’s at most grocery stores in the organic frozen section.

Amy’s just came out with a new line of meals called “Light and Lean” :

  • Each meal contains less than 300 calories, 5g fat, and 590mg sodium.
  • Each meal is 6 Weight Watcher Points in the PointsPlus program.*

Key to Symbols

They have 13  new Light and Lean Meals and they are awesome.

Light & Lean Mattar Paneer

Mattar Paneer

Amy’s parents have spent a lot of time in India, bringing back recipe ideas for the many fabulous Indian meals which Amy’s Kitchen offers. Mattar Paneer is the most popular of these. Amy’s mom, Rachel, who like so many of us keeps a close eye on her calorie intake, asked our chefs to create a version of this meal that was lower in fat and calories for our “Light & Lean” line. They did it and without sacrificing flavor or nutrition. Amy’s Light & Lean Mattar Paneer is made with tender organic peas and Indian cheese in an authentic delicately spiced sauce, with basmati rice and a delightful blend of lentils and beans to round out the meal. This delicious dish has only 260 calories and tastes so good that we’re sure it will appeal to all who appreciate fine Indian cooking.

Light & Lean Quinoa & Black Beans with Butternut Squash & Chard

Light & Lean Quinoa & Black Beans with Butternut Squash & Chard

Amy’s Aunt Rentia, who teaches yoga, often cooks black beans, quinoa and vegetables starting “from scratch” – soaking the beans overnight, simmering them for hours in a crock pot, then chopping and steaming vegetables and cooking quinoa. Our family has enjoyed many a dinner at her home, marveling at how such simple food could be so tasty. We decided to create a similar meal for our customers to enjoy, without all the work. Amy’s Quinoa and Black Bean bowl is easy to prepare, high in fiber, low in fat and calories, gluten free and non dairy. You’ll be delighted with the great flavor of the organic black beans, quinoa, Swiss chard and butternut squash. And if you’ve never tried quinoa, you’ll be amazed at how satisfying this gluten free whole grain can be. So enjoy this simple, nutritious delicious meal.

Light & Lean Italian Vegetable Pizza

There comes a time, even with the most carefully followed diet plan, when one craves pizza and either fights valiantly against the craving or guiltily gives in. Amy’s mom decided that Amy’s Kitchen simply had to come up with an alternative to the available fat- and calorie-laden pizzas. This pizza, with its combination of organic spinach, delicious tomato sauce, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and low-fat cheese on a thin crust has only 280 calories, yet tastes good enough to satisfy your deepest cravings for pizza.

Make Organic Food More Affordable!!

26 Apr

I feel so much better feeding my family organic food, but money doesn’t grow on trees! Let’s all join together to make healthy, REAL food affordable! Sign the petition below!

Tell Congress that you want your tax dollars to go to programs that help families gain greater access to healthy, affordable food in the new farm bill.

  • “Congress will soon vote on a new farm bill – the federal measure with the greatest impact on the food we eat. Currently, your tax dollars go to highly profitable agribusinesses that don’t need the help and to people who don’t live anywhere near a farm. The government does very little to help farmers grow organic fruits and vegetables.”
  • “By signing this petition, you are telling Congress that you want your tax dollars to go to programs that help families gain greater access to healthy, affordable food in the new farm bill. This petition will be sent to Frank D. Lucas, Chairmain of the House Committee on Agriculture and Debbie Stabenew, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.”

Guess what? I hit my goal….

19 Apr

Ever think you will never get back to the weight you once were. You know the weight where you actually like the way you look in pictures, the weight where you felt like everything you put on looked good. Well its been a long time since I’ve been there;

Me in 2004….145 lbs

Today I went to weight watchers to celebrate a big day. I hit my goal….150 lbs :)))

Can I tell you it is the best feeling in the world!! 30 lbs down since I had my last daughter and only 5 lbs away from where I was 9 1/2 years ago at my skinniest! I never miss a meeting, faithfully go to zumba and keep my eye on the prize. But, I have to say having a support network has helped me so much. I can share my successes and my struggles. I am a real person and I am not always perfect and I did it. If I can anyone can!!

Here’s to Weight watchers and my leader Jeanie!! THANK YOU!!!

These are the perfect thing to keep in your car for easy snacking, to take on a hike or to throw in your lunch box.  The original recipe was created by Elena Oliverio, at the Isagenix support page. I did substitute dark chocolate for the dried cranberries she suggested. Enjoy!
