My daughter loves cats and for her birthday the last few years I have made her cat birthday cakes. Her beloved “Nermal” was her favorite stuffed animal and I created him in cake on a fancy pillow (her color choices) for her 4th birthday. I used a mini bear cake pan to make the kitten’s body.
This year she wants Hello Kitty. I guess Hello Kitty has a made a come back from the 80’s. I used to have a ton of Hello Kitty stuff when I was in elementary school and when I went shopping yesterday at Toys R US for her birthday gifts, there was an entire isle dedicated to Hello Kitty. I thought about making cup cakes for her class this year, but decided to do something extra special and try to create some cake pops. In the fall I made cake balls for the first time and featured them here on the site for my cookie swap. Everyone loved them and couldn’t believe how easy they were to make. So I thought why not make some cake pops. I looked at bakerella.com and found her Hello Kitty Pops. I included all the supplies that you will need for this project on my amazon store. Since this was my first time making these I have some suggestions, first make sure and pre-freeze the pops on their side on a cookie sheet once you have inserted the sticks, this will make sure that they don’t fall apart. Second, melt the candy melts in a coffee cup, this will allow the liquid to be deep enough to dunk the entire Hello Kitty and finally make sure and use the food marker I suggested below. They will produce the clean black lines. I had to hand paint these, because the brand of edible marker I bought at the craft store did not work well. My daughter loved them and I know her class will enjoy them!! There are lots of other cute cake pop ideas at bakerella.com Oh and for all us WW people out there, they are 5 points + each!
