Green Valley Organics Giveaway!! CLOSED

8 Jul

I was so excited to find out that one of my favorite yogurt companies Redwood Hill Farms, had another branch that makes “Lactose Free” cow milk dairy products. I am not lactose intolerant, but many of my friends and their children are, so I knew this was a great idea. I was fortunate enough to try their entire range of products and they were all DELICIOUS!!! They are not only “Lactose Free” but, they have all organic ingredients, their farm is certified humane and they do not use any strange or artificial ingredients!

When Harmony Is Hard To Come By: Lactose Intolerance Or Milk Allergy?

It can be a challenge to distinguish lactose intolerance from a milk allergy, because symptoms can be similar. Milk allergies cause the body to react quicker, often within a few minutes. Generally, lactose intolerance is the impaired ability to digest lactose, or milk sugar. Lactose is digested by an enzyme called lactase, which is found in the small intestines of most people. The lactase turns lactose into glucose and galactose, which are easier to absorb into the bloodstream. Many people don’t produce enough lactase to adequately digest milk sugar. These individuals are “intolerant” to milk sugar. If you’re lactose intolerant, you’re not alone. Lactose intolerance is common, affecting more than half the world’s population.

Lactose Intolerance Facts

Cause

  • Insufficient lactase in digestive system to break down milk sugars.

Age

  • Starts later in childhood, but most common in adults. May be present in infants in the form of colic. As adults age they become more prone to lactose intolerance.

Ethnicity

  • Those of African, Asian, Hispanic and Jewish descent have a greater incidence of lactose intolerance.

Symptoms

  • Present in digestive system only and include abdominal bloating, diarrhea, flatulence, stomach cramps and occasionally, vomiting.

Milk Allergy Facts

Cause

  • Hypersensitive immune reaction to food proteins where the immune system believes that one or more of the milk proteins are harmful.

Age

  • Usually starts in early infancy. Common in children, who often outgrow it. Occasionally, adults develop it even if they did not have the allergy in childhood.

Symptoms

  • Usually immediate and affecting more than one part of the body
  • Digestion: Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea
  • Skin: Swelling, eczema and hives
  • Airways: Wheezing, coughing, congestion and a runny nose
  • Anaphylaxis: Occurs more frequently with peanut allergies. Rare as a milk allergy reaction, but it does happen. Also known as anaphylactic shock, this life-threatening event causes an extreme drop in blood pressures and closes the airways. Milk should be strictly avoided and emergency epinephrine should be kept on hand

Lactose Free-dom: How We Do It

To create our lactose free Green Valley Organics™ yogurt and kefir, we use a combination of natural enzymes and evaporation. After we’ve filtered out some of the large milk sugar (lactose) molecules and allowed the water to evaporate, we add the enzyme lactase, which helps break down lactose into easily digested glucose and galactose. No chemicals are used, and the nutritional components of the milk are not altered in any way. With less natural milk sugar, our yogurt has a lower sugar content than most other yogurts, too. What’s left? 100% farm-fresh dairy yogurt and kefir that’s low-fat and probiotic rich. We love the taste of freedom in the morning, don’t you?

Green Valley Organics carries Yogurt, Kefir and Sour cream.

The yogurt comes in plain, vanilla, honey, strawberry and blueberry.

  • Made with real dairy, lactose free
  • Flourish™ is our probioticrich combination of 10 live& active cultures
  • Less added sugar than many yogurts
  • Kosher certified, GMO and gluten free
  • Organic and delicious
  • Certified humane®

The kefir(drinkable yogurt) comes in blueberry and blueberry/pomegranate/acai

  • Made with real dairy, lactose free
  • Flourish™is our probiotic rich combination of 10 Live& active cultures
  • Less added sugar than many kefirs
  • Kosher certified, GMO and gluten free
  • Organic and delicious
  • Certified humane®

The Sour Cream

Delicious and rich, with the cultured, slightly sweet and nutty flavor that characterizes the best crème fraîche, Green Valley Organics Lactose Free Sour Cream will quicklybecome a staple in your kitchen like it has in ours. This is REAL dairy with all the flavor and versatility but none of the lactose. Add to sauces and soups, blend into bread or cakes for a delectable, tender crumb. Laloo’s Ice Cream Giveaway! CLOSED

30 Jun

A couple of years ago I was watching my favorite channel “Food Network” and they had a really neat feature about a new and different kind of ice cream. Laloo’s!!! Watch the video to see what it is all about!

Laloo’s says  “Surprisingly delicious and creamy, Laloo’s ® is made with 100% goat’s milk. It has that custard-like-old-fashioned-ice-cream-parlor-taste, with superior digestibility. Why goat’s milk? This magic elixir boasts more protein and calcium, and a natural structure with alkaline properties that allow lactose sensitive people to indulge! Smooth, rich and dense, Laloo’s ® rivals gelato, but with less than half the fat. So go ahead, eat twice as much!!!” Even Oprah Loves it! Check out this article from her magazine! At first the idea of goat’s milk ice cream was a little strange to me, but when they said it was lower fat than regular ice cream, easier to digest and it tasted like gelato, I knew I had to try it. I searched for Laloo’s when I ventured to Whole Foods and they carried a variety of flavors. I knew that the Deep Chocolate and Rumplemint (fresh mint with dark chocolate chunks) were calling my name. I was very excited when I got home to get a spoon and dig in. How can I explain Laloo’s????? I am in Laloo’s love. This ice cream is so good! It is rich, thick and creamy. It has the consistency of gelato, but is much lower fat. Laloo’s also uses REAL ingredients, so the flavors just burst in your mouth!

Laloo’s  says “I didn’t have to look far to find inspiration for the unique and deeply satisfying flavors you will find in Laloo’s ®. Whether it’s the Valley Orchard black mission figs, the Scharffen Berger chocolate or the organic garden mint, I chose each ingredient to compliment and enhance the natural goodness of Laloo’s ® Goat’s Milk Ice Cream. Lowfat – low in lactose – containing no growth hormones – Laloo’s ® is made the farmstead way by hand with love from natural ingredients that are locally produced in Sonoma County.” Honestly since my first time buying Laloo’s, I now always have at least 2 pints in my freezer at all times. They have all these delicious flavors.

GOURMET FLAVORS

Strawberry Darling

Laloo’s® most exotic ice cream is sweet and tart. Just close your eyes and think of Italy as your spoon translates bursts of juicy strawberries in cream married to a graceful swirl of balsamico. Sweet and savory! It’s delicately fresh and barrel aged. Old World meets New World. Oh Darling, I think I love you.

Ingredients: Goat Milk, Sugar, Fresh Strawberries, Egg Yolks, Balsamic Vinegar, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Natural Color

Capraccino

Made from real Italian espresso beans, our gold medal-winning coffee ice cream is a super-powered treat that’s high octane enough to become your new 3 PM (or 3AM!) pick-me-up. Our secret? Not to be confused with cappuccino, our coffee flavor has real capraccino (goat = capra) goodness. True aficionados claim Laloo’s® makes the “chewiest” coffee flavored ice cream in the world, but we’ll let you be the judge! As they say in Italy, Salute!

Check out the recipe section for some afternoon pick-me-up drink ideas.

Ingredients: Goat milk, Sugar, Italian Espresso Roast coffee bean, pure vanilla, egg yolks, locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan

Rumplemint

Our humble mint chocolate chip ice cream is low fat, lactose friendly™ and slow churned for extra creaminess. Yet the bold excess of dark chocolate tiles combine with fresh organic garden mint (not peppermint) to make this the most noble Laloo’s ® flavor yet! Why not try this “green” family favorite named for the founder of Laloo’s sustainability-obsessed husband (nicknamed “Rumple”).

Ingredients: Goat milk, Sugar, Swiss Dark Chocolate (sugar, coconut oil, Dutch cocoa, cocoa, butter oil, lecithin) Egg yolks, Natural Mint, Natural Color, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan

Inspired by the simple yet complex beauty of a snowflake, our national award-winning vanilla ice cream is so delicate yet so creamy you can serve it with everything from fresh berries to gazpacho. Ask your favorite chef to join you in a blind taste test and you’ll see why Laloo’s® Vanilla Snowflake is often called the holy grail of ice cream (by the Wall Street Journal among others).

PROBIOTIC FROZEN YOGURTS

Cherries Tuilerie Frozen Yogurt

Highly-prized Amarena cherries have long been a primary ingredient in some of Italy’s most sophisticated gelatos. Now they’re the inspiration behind Laloo’s® soon-to-be legendary probiotic frozen yogurt. It’s flavored by the actual cherries and their juice but we didn’t stop there. We added tiles of luxurious dark chocolate for a taste combination that will gratify even the most sinfully discerning palate. In fact, it’s a flavor so precious that Laloo named it after her own daughter – Tuilerie – making this our best kept secret (until now)!

Ingredients: Goat milk, sugar, black cherries, swiss dark chocolate (sugar, coconut oil, dutch cocoa, cocoa, butter oil, lecithin, natural flavor), egg yolks, locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan, natural flavors. Live active yogurt cultures; s. Thermophilus, i. Bulgaricus, i. Acidophilus and bifidus.

Cajeta de Leche Frozen Yogurt

Cajeta (pronounced KA-HEH-TA) is an all-natural traditional Mexican caramel swirled into our probiotic-rich vanilla frozen yogurt. Consider it “Dulce de Leche’s” lactose friendly, health conscious cousin with a twist; we’ve added generous amounts of tiny Texas toffee pieces that crunch with the subtle notes of old-fashioned hand-made candy. ¡Más por favor!

Ingredients: Goat milk, cajeta (sugar, corn syrup, baking soda), egg yolks, toffee (sugar, butter, almonds, soy, salt), pure vanilla, locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan, and live active yogurt cultures; s. Thermophilus, i. Bulgaricus, i. Acidophilus and bifidus.
